About SSA
SARVA SHIKSHA ABHIYAN

School mapping is the art and science of building geospatial databases with relational databases of educational, demographic, social and economic information for schools and educational directorates to support educational planners and decision makers. It has become a relatively normalized and institutionalized practice in education micro planning. Its function in offering technical input to any educational micro planning effort is virtually self-evident.
The primary objective of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is to universalize elementary education by community ownership of school system. SSA is under implementation by all states towards improvement of primary and upper primary education across the country. There is a need of systematic technical database for the schools
so that it supports during emergency as well as it helps making decision at State Project Director office level in runtime. The school mapping process consists of conducting a survey and locating the survey findings on the map. The major steps involved are preparation of a map of panchayat, preparation of school location map, collection of information from the school. The school map is not just a document to be prepared and stored in a file. Its value lies in being easily accessible to public view. Ideally the map should be deployed prominently for every community
